The heavyweight belt maze found Gassiev before it found clarity
Gassiev is a full WBA champion, Yoka is reportedly out, and Joe Joyce is the convenient name floating near the vacancy. That is motion, not authority.
Bad Left Hook reported Murat Gassiev was elevated to full WBA heavyweight titlist after Usyk vacated, then lost Tony Yoka to injury for the July 11 Moscow defense. Joe Joyce has been reported as a leading replacement candidate, while the WBA schedule still lists Gassiev-Yoka and Joyce-Suslenkov separately.
This is the post-Usyk alphabet era in miniature: sanctioning status moves faster than public legitimacy. Gassiev has a belt; the division still needs a fight that makes people believe the belt means succession.
If Joyce slides in after recent losses, does that give Gassiev a marketable defense or make the title feel even more like paperwork?
Heavyweight has champions; it still lacks a public answer. Gassiev's elevation, Kabayel's status, and the Joyce/Yoka shuffle are movement, not authority.
